RML LOOKS FOR STRONG PERFORMANCE IN VALENCIA

RML LOOKS FOR STRONG PERFORMANCE IN VALENCIA
13 April 2004

RML are anticipating a strong performance from both of their Saleen S7Rs in the FIA GT Championship at Valencia next weekend. The team is looking to put the frustrations of Monza firmly behind them where, after a positive start, both cars suffered punctures.

The team is certainly no stranger to the Valencia circuit having spent two full days testing there in February with car No7 drivers, Brazilian Tommy Erdos and Briton Mike Newton. The circuit’s tight corners and short straights seem to suit the Saleen and both drivers posted extremely encouraging lap times compared to the Lister and Lamborghini which were also in attendance.

Portuguese driver Miguel Ramos in the No8 car will also be returning to familiar ground. He competed on the Valencia circuit back in 2002 on his way to securing the Spanish GT Championship in a similar S7R, whilst for his co-driver, Chris Goodwin, it will be his first outing on the circuit since testing a McLaren F1 GTR in 2000.

Phil Barker, RML’s Operations Director and Team Manager, is upbeat about the team’s prospects in Spain: “We know the circuit reasonably well and believe it will suit our cars set up far better than Monza did. In Italy we focussed very much on reliability and getting both cars to the finish, in Spain we will be a little more adventurous”.
