LE MANS WINNERS TEAM-UP WITH CHEEVER RACING FOR DAYTONA

26 January 2007

For the second year running, one of the two Daytona Prototype entries being run at the 2007 Rolex 24 at Daytona by Cheever Racing will be supported by AD Group, prime sponsors of the RML Le Mans 24 LMP2 winning MG Lola (2005 and 2006).

Two of the drivers, who raced to success at Le Mans, Brazilian Tommy Erdos, and Briton and AD Group’s CEO Mike Newton will again be competing, this year behind the wheel of the #51 NetVu Connected Porsche-powered Fabcar Daytona Prototype (DP).

Team owner Eddie Cheever Jr. said, “AD Group’s success at Le Mans – two years running - will be a strong asset for Cheever Racing for the Rolex 24 at Daytona. One of the greatest challenges to finishing a 24 hour endurance event is getting all the drivers to work together.”

The team will be hoping to improve on last year’s outing, where a battling performance saw the #51 car (a Lexus Crawford) come 12th in class and 22nd overall, despite major problems that sent it behind the wall for extended repairs on three separate occasions, beginning with the opening laps of the race.

For their 2007 outing Erdos and Newton will be joined by up and coming American driver Harrison Brix who had his first run out at the Rolex 24 in 2006, coming a respectable seventh overall in DP.

The drivers of the #51 car joined Eddie Cheever Jr, Christian Fittipaldi, Emanuel Collard, Sascha Maassen from the #39 Cheever Racing Porsche Crawford at the Daytona test days, Jan. 4-6.
