MG LOLA EX264 COMPLETES FIRST TEST AT ALBACETE

07 March 2005

RML travelled to Spain last week to carry out an extensive three day test with the MG Lola EX264. Both Mike Newton and Tommy Erdos participated in the test and although initially delayed with snow and freezing conditions the team were able to complete the scheduled test programme.

Phil Barker, RML’s Race Operations Director commented ‘The test went very well, the only problems we had were with the weather but despite that we still managed to cover over 700km and gather a lot of data. We had no mechanical problems and after ironing out a few electrical glitches we were able to make progress. We completed a lot of set-up changes to get the car where we wanted to and were pleased with its first run on Michelin tyres’.

RML’s Chief Executive Ray Mallock was also present at the test. He commented ‘This was the first outing for the new LMP2 with this aerodynamic package and we were very pleased with the results. We saw improvements with the Judd engine which is very responsive and both Mike and Tommy were impressed with the handling of the car. The tyre performance was good with a level of grip coming in very quickly and the performance being maintained during an extended run. The MG ran virtually trouble free, we had a very successful three days’.

Further European track testing of the MG EX264 will now be undertaken, to include the Paul Ricard 24 Hour test, in preparation for the opening LMES race at Spa on April 17th.
