No8 SALEEN READY FOR SPA CHALLENGE

The No8 Saleen S7-R racecar competing in this year’s Proximus 24 Hours of Spa race appears to have all the ingredients for a positive result in what is one of the world’s most famous and demanding endurance races.

Sponsored by AD Group companies, including AD Aerospace, Dedicated Micros and RemGuard, the No8 car will feature the combined driving talents of Tommy Erdos and AD Group CEO Mike Newton. The duo, fresh from an impressive victory in the LMP2 class at the Le Mans 24 Hours in a MG Lola EX 264, will also be joined by Michael Mallock – son of RML Director Ray – who drove the No8 Saleen S7-R to as high as fifth place on his Spa 24 debut last year and Phil Bennett who drove a Saleen in three 1000kms races in 2004 – including at Spa.

Both Mike and Tommy are also no strangers to the Saleen having campaigned as team-mates in the marque during the 2003 FIA GT Championships and again in 2004. Before linking-up they had their own successes with the Saleen including Mike’s victory in the 2002 Daytona Grand-Am finale (GTS class) and Tommy taking the 2002 British GT title, co-driving with Ian McKellar, and the Top Gun Trophy awarded to the most successful individual driver.

Supporting the No8 Saleen’s outing at Spa will be RML’s extensive race experience with the Saleen chassis, in an event designed to test drivers and machine to the very limits. From a technical standpoint RML has had a special relationship with the Saleen S7-R from the very start, having been responsible for both the design and initial build of the supercar back in 2000.
